Otsuka Welfare Clinic at Peshawar
to continue service till 2010

PESHAWAR: Otsuka Welfare Clinic, Peshawar has been providing healthcare services to Afghan refugees and local residents of surrounding areas since July 2003 and has entered its 6th years of service. It is a welfare clinic for the provision of free treatment to the poor Afghan community. It has been funded by 24 companies belonging to the Otsuka International Asia and Arab Division in Otsuka Pharmaceuticals Company, Japan as a part of its Commitment to Better Health Worldwide.

The staff of the clinic includes three qualified doctors and others including a staff nurse and pharmacist along with Para medics. The clinic provides in house consultancy and treatment along with handling of basic medical emergencies. This year this clinic has an average monthly turnover of around 7,000 patients. Since its inaugural up to May 2008, total 390,358 patients have visited this clinic to get benefit from devoted working of all the staff available at Otsuka Welfare Clinic.

The dignitaries from all walks of life visit the clinic and appreciate the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company for establishing a charity clinic at Peshawar and comment that it will go a long way in lowering the burden of patients at the local hospitals. His Highness Mr. Nobuaki Tanaka, Ex-Japanese Ambassador in Pakistan when visited the clinic, highly appreciated Otsuka’s objective of services to humanity and commitment to society. He mentioned that during his visits to other countries, he has seen Otsuka providing such Corporate Social Responsibilities worldwide too. He appreciated the working, services and commitment of Otsuka to society.

In principle Otsuka do not only donate money or goods but do some work directly to help people who are facing difficulties due to disasters. That is the reason why Otsuka established Welfare Clinic for Afghan refugees and carried medicines and drinks to the people who has been suffering due to earthquakes in China, Indonesia and Japan.  It is only possible when Otsuka has group companies in each area and Otsuka is proud to be one of a few Japanese manufacturing companies in Pakistan since 1987.

Initially, it was thought that running the clinic for five years would be enough since refugees people would have gone back to their home country. But taking into consideration still the huge number of patients being treated at the clinic, Otsuka group Companies in Asia and Arab have decided to continue their support to run the Otsuka Welfare Clinic till June 2010.

Mr. Mehtabuddin Feroz, Director, and local partner of Otsuka Pakistan Limited as well as Mr. Abid Hussain, Chief Executive Officer have deeply admired this generous help and thanked the 24 companies for this commitment to keep continue their support in helping the poor ailing humanity. They also reiterated their commitment to put maximum efforts to help sufferers to get relief at Otsuka Welfare Clinic. (PR)
