PM&DC & CPSP join hands to
promote medical education

ISLAMABAD: Members of the medical profession will be delighted and have a sigh of relief at the news that PM&DC and CPSP have resolved their differences and have now joined hands to promote the standard of medical education in the country. Addressing a press conference here last week President PM&DC Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed & President CPSP, Prof. Zafarullah Chaudhry who were accompanied by their Executive Committee Members and Council members respectively informed the media that they will promote and uplift medical education together collaborating with each other.

Addressing a press conference at the dinner organized by Dr. Asim Hussain Chancellor Ziauddin University and member PM&DC Council in the honour of newly elected Council of CPSP Dr. Asim said that in the past both these institutions were together and complimenting each other to bring the enormous improvement in the field of medicine.

President PM&DC Prof. Masood Hameed said that we still need more doctors but due to shortage of trained experienced medical teachers, the government was reluctant to give permission for establishing of new medical and dental colleges.

President CPSP Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry said that post graduate degree awarding institutes and Universities should also encourage doctors to enter into specialized courses to overcome this dearth. He was pleased to have his worthy Council and PM&DC Council together after a long frustrated gap to manage and to provide opportunities to the doctors to enter into post graduate advance studies in medicine and surgery.


First Postgraduate “Diploma in Diabetology”
approved by PMDC

KARACHI: Baqai Institute of Diabetology (BIDE) was established in 1996 as first specialty oriented centre of Pakistan. BIDE is one of the eight centers of the world, which are designated as International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Centre of Education and  is accredited with College of Physician & Surgeon of Pakistan (CPSP) for the training of FCPS II Medicine and post fellow Fellowship FCPS Endocrine.

Since 1999 BIDE is conducting one year fulltime Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetology for family physicians. The Diploma certificate is awarded by Baqai Medical University. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has now approved this Diploma course for two years which will help the medical community to manage diabetes and its complications right at primary care level. The second year of diploma will be focusing on research work thus helping clinicians in learning the practical aspects of community research.


 Prof. Abdullah Iqbal passes away

KARACHI: Dr. Abdullah Iqbal FCPS who retired as Prof. of surgery from Dow Medical College and later joined Baqai Medical University as Prof.  & Head of the Dept. of Surgery passed away on April 21, 2015. He was suffering from liver disease and was admitted at Dow International Medical College Hospital Ojha Campus.  Fateha was offered for the departed soul during the Endocrine Surgical Week at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center where a large number of surgeons were present. They sympathized with the family members of late Dr. Abdullah Iqbal and prayed to God Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal Peace. Ameen.
