UHS retains second best
medical university position

LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has again been declared the second best medical university of Pakistan in Quality and Research based Ranking 2013 announced by Higher Education Commission (HEC) last week.
The criteria used by HEC for ranking is based on quality assurance, teaching quality and excellence in research. While announcing the ranking, HEC Chairman Dr Javaid R. Laghari said that UHS has narrowed down its margin as compared to last year, with Aga Khan University, Karachi which has been declared the overall best medical university of the country.
While congratulating the faculty and staff on this achievement, UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (R) Prof Muhammad Aslam paid tribute to their devotion, enthusiasm and commitment. He urged them to take university to new heights avoiding complacency trap. We would focus more on the quality of student learning and on excellence in both academic and administrative pursuits, he said adding that UHS had to become a launching pad for the inventions and creative ideas born in its labs, to translate into technologies to reach the grass roots.
UHS VC further said that the potential for advances in health research was quite promising. The main target of the university was to develop its new campus at Kala Shah Kaku. He resolved that UHS would compete for QS World Ranking of the universities this year. (PR)


ATLS Course at CPSP
Regional Centre Lahore

LAHORE: CPSP Regional Center Lahore organized an ATLS course for the trainees who have been selected for postgraduate training in Ireland. Speaking at the occasion Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, DGIR, said that with the help of ATLS trauma patients can be rescued and helped on the spot. It is helpful in saving precious lives.
Describing e-log system introduced buy the CPSP, he said the college was monitoring the training of doctors through this system effectively. Many of the countries are in contact with CPSP for the implementation of e-log system in their own countries. Members of CPSP inspection team will inspect the selected hospitals in Ireland so that CPSP’s trainee doctors can perform their duty in a congenial atmosphere. PMA Punjab rejects
PHCC taxation policy

LAHORE: Provincial council of PMA Punjab met at PMA House Lahore today with President Prof. Dr. Ashraf Nizami in Chair. Provincial councilors of Layyah, Muzafargarh, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Take Sing, Okara, Kasur, Shiekhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sargodha, Chakwal and Lahore districts participated in the meeting. The associations like MTA Punjab, Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians, Specialist Doctors Association Punjab also participated in the meeting.
Provincial council rejected the arbitrary taxation policy of Punjab Health Care Commission and termed it as biased and exploitation conspiracy of bureaucracy. It was resolved that this unjust taxation system shall be resisted by PMA at every level. As a first step delegation of PMA will meet Chairman Punjab Health Care Commission to apprise him about the magnitude and tension associated with the issue.
Provincial council resolved that appointment of bureaucrats as chief administrators at hospitals shall be resisted at every level and every district chapter shall call their emergency meeting in this connection to apprise general masses about the issue. House termed that since 1984, bureaucrats are heading Punjab health department and has destroyed the system by their wrong policies.
Provincial council formed a 15 member committee includes MTA, Academy of Family Physicians, Specialist Doctors Association and Divisional representatives of PMA Punjab which shall decide line of action against policies of Punjab Health Care Commission and appointment of bureaucrats in hospitals.(PR)
