FAISALABAD: Editorial Board of Journal of Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College is striving hard to further improve the quality of manuscripts it accepts for publication and standard of their Journal. JAFMDC it may be mentioned here is a biannual publication which commenced publication last year and so far it has published three issues. The management of the college is also very keen to help and assist the Editorial Board that is why the Principal of AFMDC Prof. Noor Akbar Sial encouraged four of its faculty members to enroll in six months Certificate Course in Medical Editing started by University of Health Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Pakistan Association of Medical Editors in 2019.

All the participants completed the training course and earned the Certificate. Ever since then, they have been using the experience gained to make improvements in the journal and have been successful to a great extent. Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid Coordinator of the CME Course at UHS who is also Chief Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences recently visited AFMDC during his visit to Faisalabad on October 28th where he met all the course participants as well as Principal of AFMDC Prof. Noor Akbar Sial. Later a meeting with some selected faculty members was arranged where matters of mutual interest related to the journal as well as medical writing and scientific publishing were discussed in detail. Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan, DGM Administration and Human Resource at ADMDC was also present on this occasion.

Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid commended the efforts of the members of the Editorial Board of JAFMDC, its editor Dr. Sherin Jawed and promised to extend them all possible help and assistance whenever they need any guidance. During the discussion the proposal to organize some workshops for training the faculty members in Medical Writing and Peer Review also came up for discussion. Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid promised them that PharmEvo Research Forum of which he is the Chairperson, is a unique academic initiative by PharmEvo Pharmaceuticals d which has an active training programme. It is organizing workshops all over the country and if they contact them, it could be organized in the coming months. Mr. Shoaib Mirza Sales Manager of PharmEvo based in Faisalabad was also present on this occasion. They management of AFMDC was asked to get in touch with him to plan the workshops. It was emphasized that participants of the workshops should be drawn from all the clinical departments as well so that they can later on share their experience with other colleagues in their respective departments. Prof. Noor Akbar Sial suggested that some faculty members of AFMDC if possible be included in the Reviewers Database of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences at which he was told that let them send their detailed CV for evaluation. We always encourage clinicians to join our reviewer’s database as it will also help them in so many ways.

Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid also informed the participants about the Clinical Research Grants offered by PharmEvo Research Forum and each grant is up to Rs. three hundred thousand. Its website www.prf.pharmevo.biz contains all the details i.e. the areas of research, how to apply for the grants, the criteria of evaluation by the Advisors of PRF. Our special focus is on Residents in Training and junior faculty members since most often they have good ideas but they cannot implement them due to lack of funding. Hence, this is a new opportunity which they can avail. PharmEvo will have no say in the approval of these research grants about which the decision will be taken by the Advisory Board in a transparent manner keeping up the professional ethics. They were encouraged to disseminate this information in their institution so that those interested can apply. The last date for submission of research proposals is November 30th for the current year.

Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan and Prof. Noor Akbar Sial further suggested that their management will be too glad and receptive to any innovative idea, and they have a beautiful purpose built auditorium with all the facilities which can be used for such academic activities. It was decided to continue the discussion and plan some academic activities, workshops in the coming months on dates convenient for everyone .Prof. Noor Akbar Sial and Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan also thanked Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid for his visit to AFMDC once again and hoped to continue this collaboration in the days to come.
