LONDON: The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has announced details of its Medical Training Initiative which enables medical graduates from all over the world to train in the UK for up to 24 months. The whole process is as such. First the RCP assesses applicants at panel interviews. Then successful candidates are matched to suitable NHS training posts. Then the RCP facilitates GMC registration and the supporting Tier 5 Medical Training Initiative visa. Medical graduates can train in a variety of posts at various levels for up to 24 months for which The RCP provides a comprehensive support package for those on the scheme. 

The Eligibility criteria include that applicants should hold a postgraduate medical qualification (e.g. MRCP(UK) Part 1, MMed). Have been in clinical practice for three out of the last five years including the most recent 12 months and have achieved the required Academic IELTS score - minimum of 7.5 overall and 7.0 in each category OR the Occupational English Test (Medicine) – minimum Grade B in each category .

 Posts are usually available in acute medicine, general internal medicine, geriatric medicine (elderly care), respiratory medicine and gastroenterology. Applications for other specialties are welcome, though posts may not be available immediately. Application will only be considered for shortlisting if if the candidate meets the eligibility criteria stated above

 Interview date and time: Monday 22 March and Monday 29 March, 13:00-17:00 GMT+5 . Interviews will be taking place virtually on Microsoft Teams. Those interested will be sent a Link by email. Each interview will last 40 minutes. 

The Jeelani Drabu Palliative Care MTI Fellowship: Applications are encouraged from doctors (ST3+ equivalate) interested in training in the UK for two years to enhance their skills and learning in Palliative Medicine. Applicants selected for the Jeelani Drabu Palliative Care MTI Fellowship will receive a bursary of approximately £2100 to help subsidies the travel costs and fees associated with the MTI process.
