Late Prof. Tahir Saeed Haroon

We were deeply grieved to know the sad demise of Professor Dr. Tahir Saeed Haroon. He was a professional par excellence, steadfast and a righteous man. It is so sudden, untimely and tragic. There is so little one can do to mitigate grief in such circumstances.

May Almighty Allah bless his soul with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. My wife Dr. Anjum, joins me to offer her deep condolence to all the members of grieved family. With countless prayers.

Training in
Paediatric Dermatology

I have read with great interest a recent report on Training in Paediatric Dermatology published in Pulse International of January 1, 2018. I thoroughly enjoyed the suggestion by Dr. Amjad Khan regarding   Minimum duration of training, work based competency assessment will provide pool of candidates. I have lived in England for 6 years, and came to my home country 35 years ago. There is marked difference in the patient attendance in the two countries. In three hours at National Institute of Child Health I teach the postgraduates in Paediatric on twenty children with skin problems in one morning. In Western World the number of children is one third in one clinic. On Friday morning I look after the skin problems of children in Skin OPD at JPMC (Minimum of 35 children) in both the institutions the children seen by me have been mismanaged by doctors as they have no knowledge of the child’s skin. My postgraduates are a witness to this.

President CPSP had said that he would discuss Fellowship in Paediatric Dermatology in another forum. Assistant professor in Dermatology and Paediatric along with postgraduates in Paediatric and Dermatology are all in favour of starting the Fellowship in Paediatric dermatology. The seniors are very reluctant. The adult Dermatologists are looking after the skin problems of children since Prof Tahir Saeed Haroon (late) started Dermatology in our country .They will be supervisors and examiners till the first batch of Paediatric Dermatologists is produced. One center is at Children Hospital Lahore where Prof Farhana Muzzafar (FCPS) in dermatology is looking after the skin problems of children for last twenty years. There are two centers in Karachi, one at JPMC/NICH and other at DUHS. Both places have department of Dermatology. At JPMC two OPD'S are conducted in a week. At DUHS daily OPD is conducted.

Majority of adult dermatologists are more inclined to Aesthetic Dermatology so children are suffering. They need Clinical Dermatologists.
