KARACHI: First National
Workshop with Nationwide Live Conference Linkage and Video-assisted
Discussion was organized by Society of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic
Surgeons of Pakistan (SOLES) at Karachi recently. It was linked with
Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar where SOLES is being headed by Prof.
Hamid Hasan, Prof. Abdul Majeed Choudhry and Prof. Abdul Samad Khan
respectively. Prof. M. Saeed Qureshi and Prof. Mumtaz Mehar were the
contact person in Karachi. A large number of laparoscopic and endoscopic
surgeons participated in this live interactive workshop. Topics which
were covered during the workshop included Laparoscopic Hernia Repair and
Laparoscopic Appendicectomy.
Dr. Baddar Siddiqui, President SOLES in his introductory remarks said
that the main objective of the society is to promote awareness about
endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery and train our future specialists in
this field. We are trying to put up an indigenous training programme
keeping in view our requirements and needs. It is the beginning, we will
move forward and our new young surgeons will be providing state of the
art care to our patients.
The workshop started little late due to unavoidable circumstances but
attracted large number of participants. The panel of moderators in
Karachi included Dr. Badar Siddiqui, Dr. Rizwan Azmi, and Dr. Irfan
Daudi. Prof. Saeed Qureshi discussed the laparoscopic hernia repair,
open repair VS Laparoscopic Hernia.
Brief Videos were shown on basic techniques and options of Hernia Lap.
Hernia anatomy, Peritoneal dissection, Hernia large direct sac, Hernia
indirect sac, Hernia distorted anatomy omentum, Irreducible hernia
position, Hernia indirect sac division, Hernia mesh introduction, Mesh
fixation, Post TAPP view and opposite Hernia.. TEP Repair techniques
were shown and discussed by the participants. Videos on difficult cases
like Adhesions and Lump were also part of the workshop besides
complicated lap. Appendicectomy, videos on Gangrenous, Perforation and
Abcess. Participants took active part in discussion and shared their
valuable experience with all on this rare occasion of nationwide
interaction of laparoscopic surgeons of Pakistan. |
