FAISALABAD: Pakistan Hypertension League is holding its 13th annual
symposium here from February 27th to Feb. 28th 2010 at a local hotel.
Prof. Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry from Punjab Medical College is the Convener
and Chairman of the symposium while Dr. Javed Iqbal is the General
Secretary. It is likely to attract a large number of speakers from all
over the country.
According to a communication received from chairman of the organizing
committee the inaugural session will be on February 27th from 10.00 AM
to 11.00 AM. This will be followed by plenary session and the topics
which will be discussed include Hypertension: the epidemic and its
clinical consequences, Salt and Hypertension, Can we prevent
hypertension, controlling hypertension at the community level. The next
session will be on diagnosis and assessment. The presentation will focus
on how to measure blood pressure accurately, what is the role of ABPM,
clinical assessment of a newly diagnosed hypertensive, how to exclude
secondary hypertension, assessing target organ damage and significance
of ISH. This will be followed by a state of the art lecture on Pulmonary
Hypertension. Second session in the afternoon will be on
pharmacotherapy. The topics selected for this session include how to
initiate pharmacotherapy, what is the significance of combination
therapy, treating the childhood hypertension, how to improve the drug
compliance and how best to treat gestational hypertension. The General
Body meting of the PHL will be held the same day between 6.00 PM and
7.00 PM followed by dinner.
On February 28th the programme starts with a breakfast session at 8.00
AM followed by the third session which is devoted to hypertensive
complications. The presentations in this session include what is the
significance of micro albuminuria in hypertension, frequency and
clinical consequences of LVH, managing hypertensive stroke, clinical
feature and management of hypertensive HF, hypertensive emergencies and
hypertensive Eye Disease. The topics which will be discussed in the last
session include recognition and clinical significance of metabolic
syndrome, Hypertension and Diabetes: Is it a coincidence? Practical
difficulties in controlling hypertension, psycho social perspective
factors in the genesis of hypertension and orthostatic hypotension:
causes, recognition and management.
Registration fee for members after January 31st is rupees one thousand
while for non-members it is Rs. 1200/-. For trainees concessional
registration fee is Rs. 600/- for paramedical and staff and nurses Rs.
400/- and for accompanying persons Rs. 200/-
