KARACHI: Recertification
of medical professionals specially General practitioners must be
initiated which will help to promote continuing medical education in the
country. Majority of our health care providers in rural areas are not
adequately trained which results in poor management of patients.
Un-necessary use if injections and Pricking of I.V infusion bottles are
also very common at small clinics and maternity homes set up in small
houses which are major causes of hepatitis spread and other disease like
AIDS and sepsis. These views were expressed by Dr. Zareen Fasih, Head
Department of Pediatrics, at Ziauddin Medical University Karachi. She
was performing the Otsuka Lucky draw in connection with Otsuka awareness
campaign against hepatitis held at Otsuka Head Office on January 28,
2010. Mr. Abid Hussain, Chief Executive, Otsuka Pakistan, Mr. Habib
Navaid, Director Marketing and other senior executives of the company
were also present.

Dr. Zareen
Fasih, Head Department of Pediatric, at Ziauddin Medical University
Karachi, performing the Otsuka Lucky draw held at Otsuka Head office
here on 28th January 2010. Mr. Abid Hussain, CEO, Otsuka Pakistan and
other senior executives of the company are also seen in the picture.
Continuing Dr. Zareen said that majority of GP’s even in urban areas do
not have time to attend CME meetings because they are very busy at their
clinics. People in rural areas have a feeling that they will get well
quickly if they get injections. It can only be controlled through
education of health care providers. To control pricking of infusion
bottles and needle stick injuries we should encourage the nursing staff
who are directly involved in this practice by arranging I.V
certification courses to train them as role models which will help to
create awareness and help to make them more responsible.
Dr. Zareen Fasih further said that group discussion and small group
meeting in various health facilities should be arranged for CME
activities to emphasize on the prevention of the diseases which is
important to prevent hepatitis and other communicable diseases. Majority
of diseases are preventable. It needs ethical practices and awareness
regarding prevention of the diseases. She appreciated the efforts of
Otsuka Pakistan to create awareness regarding these deadly diseases. It
is a noble cause which must be appreciated, she added.
Earlier Mr. Muhammad Arshad, Product Manager Otsuka Pakistan informed
that this continuing educational campaign was started eight years ago
which is being run to create awareness regarding hepatitis and to
encourage ethical medical practices. Dr. Ali Hassan from Steel Town,
Karachi was the lucky winner of a bumper prize for the Month of January
2010 draw. Other fifteen winners will get consolation prizes. |
